Black Bean Veggie Burgers
Comments:
Momma says veggies are good for us. If that is the case, then these burgers should be absolutely delightful! Black Beans (AKA turtle beans) have a dense, meaty texture (works for burgers!), which makes it popular in many vegetarian dishes, such as the Mexican-American black bean burrito. Today, we are grillin'!
1 (16 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed
1/2 green bell pepper, cut into 2 inch pieces
1/2 onion, cut into wedges
3 cloves garlic, peeled
1 egg
1 Tbs. chili powder
1 Tbs. cumin
1 tsp hot sauce
1/2 cup seasoned bread crumbs
In a medium bowl, mash black beans until thick and pasty. In your food processor, chop the bell pepper, onion, and garlic. When finished, stir this into the beans.
In a separate small bowl, stir together the egg, chili powder, cumin, and chili sauce. When thoroughly combined, pour the egg mixture into the beans. Finally, mix in bread crumbs until the ingredients are sticky and hold together. Divide the bean burgers into four patties.
Fire up your outdoor grill for high heat. To help keep the burger in tact, place a lightly oiled sheet of aluminum foil on the cooking grates. Grill patties on the foil, and cook about 8 minutes on each side.
Lightly toast your buns and add any condiments you enjoy.
Add some wood chips to give the burgers some smoke flavor.
Enjoy!
