FAQ Subject: Marinade for onions before grilling
In Texas we enjoy sliced onions with our barbecue. However, there is a marinade that you soak the onions in before you serve them. I believe you use vinegar and some other ingredients do you happen to know what the ingredients are. Thank you for your help.
Thank you
Kathy Bowers
Hi Kathy,
The list of possible ingredients reads like the spice catalogue.
Try heating 1 C. vinegar, with 1 T. pickling spices and 1/4 t. salt.
If you don't have pickling spices handy use 1/4 t. garlic powder, 1/2 t. coriander seeds, 1/4 t. mustard seed, 1 bay leaf, 2 allspice, 1 clove, dash of ginger and cinnamon. Bring to a simmer and cool. Pour over onions and let sit in the fridge for a couple of hours.
Have fun
Smoky
