FAQ Subject: Does charcoal has the same amount of carcinogens?
An older friend of ours claims a steak grilled over charcoal has the same amount of carcinogens as smoking a CARTON of cigarettes. Is this true? If not, I need some proof for him.
Thanks,
Linda
Hi Linda,
Your friend is full of prunes.
There are more nitrosamines (the supposed carcinogen) in the lettuce and tomato in a BLT sandwich than there are in a steak cooked (not burnt) over charcoal. Click into the FAQs and read more.
Have fun,
Smoky
