Topic: Is avocado wood acceptable for smoking? . . . .
From: Glen,
Subject: Re: Avocado Wood

Hi Smoky,

My friend has an avocado tree.

He likes to bbq and would like to know if the wood is acceptable for bbqing, and if so what are the flavor qualities?

. . . . or is it bad or harmful.

Your reply would be appreciated very much.

Glen D. Harwell

Hi Glen,

Probably won't harm you but, meat cooked over a limb that might have produced avocados would give me the cramps.

Avocado is a member of the Lauraceae family which includes several very good cooking woods and Laurus nobilis - bay.

Please read the Glossary and FAQs about woods before you use too much of it.

Then, why don't you tell me what you think. If you do, please refer to it as "a member of the laurel family" so that I don't suffer too much.

Fun,
Smoky
